(Warrensburg, MO) The forecast calls for near-perfect weather on Saturday and once again drivers and fans are set to converge on the CMS grounds. Celebrate Mother’s Day weekend at the action track with the USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Midwest Mod-Lites, USRA B-Mods, and Pure Stocks.

Participating drivers in the two USRA-sanctioned classes, Modifieds, and B-Mods, have racked up huge points so far this season thanks to solid car counts. The more solid the car counts, the more points drivers earn and CMS has had no shortage of cars. CMS will never cut purses based on car counts and will do everything it can to put on the best program for drivers and fans.

After the track received several inches of rain heading into last week’s competition, the track was under water until Monday morning. Track personnel quickly went to work to get the race surface ready in time for last weekend’s racing and it held up amazingly well through the first two-thirds of the program, just after the guest class’ feature event last week, turns one and two presented some challenges to the crew and drivers for the final few events of the night.

This week, maintenance began on Sunday and grooming and prepping has continued since then, with the track being cut and bladed. This process was repeated on Monday with extra attention placed on the turns and heavy attention placed on the pad foot to pack the track as solidly as possible, particularly in turns one and two. The track was then pad footed again and cut to fill the holes. Per track maintenance man, Todd Johnson, “When I left on Monday, the track looked good then.” With mid-week moisture present, the crew will likely take a break until precipitation moves out of the area and then they will return to continue to work the surface for Saturday’s race program.

Early season leaders in each division includes Jim Moody pacing the USRA Modified field just ahead of defending champion Kevin Blackburn, who travels all the way from Fulton, Missouri to race at CMS! Steve Clancy leads as large field of USRA B-Mod drivers to show the way over Russ Niehoff, another long-distance traveler to CMS all the way up from Lockwood, Missouri. Clayton Campbell is just two markers in front of Bret Wood in a fierce Street Stock battle while consistent runs from Dillon Raffurty places him atop the Midwest Mod-Lite standings over Ed Griggs. In the Pure Stock division, Larry Norris leads the way by five points over last year’s champion, Rodger Detherage.

REMINDER! CMS reminds drivers and fans need to be alert and take alternate routes to CMS beginning May 8th as bridge construction begins on Highway 13 just north of Warrensburg over the Blackwater River, Highway 13 will close just north of Warrensburg at the bridge. Alternate routes to CMS from the West include 50 Highway past Warrensburg to the Highway 13 north bypass or Interstate 70 from the Higginsville Exit then 12 miles south to the track. From the South on Highway 13 simply stay on the bypass around Warrensburg, the track is just north of the final roundabout. From the East, simply exit on the Highway 13 bypass north to the track. From the Hwy 50 bypass, the track is 5 miles north.

Weekly racing continues Saturday evening at CMS with Pit Gates opening at 4:30, grandstands at 5, driver pill draw closes at 6:15, late drivers will not be awarded passing points. The pit meeting takes place at 6:30, hot laps at 7:00 and racing begins at 7:30.
