On a
cold night at Central Missouri Speedway the Midwest
Sprint Car Association (MSCA) presented by
Racinboys.com heated up the action on the track with
a non-wing sprint special feature. Fans were
treated to some thrilling racing action on the high
banks with Kenny Potter taking the first-ever MSCA
feature victory. Dustin Boney and Jason
Bodenhammer received the double checkers for their
first CMS feature wins this year. Brian Johnson
and Scotty Martin flew into victory lane with their
second feature wins in a row. Despite the
weather, Ninety-two cars were on hand in the five
divisions with several new drivers checking into the
track for the night of racing.
Twenty-eight
cars registered in the mighty modified
division with three heat races contested to round out
the feature field. Heat race winners were Don
Crnkovich of Lenexa, KS, Doug Walrath from Clinton
and Dustin Boney of Tonganoxie, KS with Joe Walker of
Harrisonville grabbing the win in the b-main
event. The twenty-lap feature event started
when Boney led the field into the first turn with
Crnkovich, Walrath and Don Danner working the high
and low side for the second and third spots.
Early in the race a huge pile up occurred in turn
four after Aaron Poe spun out with Justin Johnson and
Walker also caught up in the wreck. Numerous
cars stacked up behind them causing a red flag with
the track completely blocked. Boney held on for
the remainder of the race with a battle for the third
position between Mark Dotson, Dave Meyer, moving up
from a twentieth place start and Aaron Marrant up
from the twenty second starting position. At the
checkered flag Boney wins his first feature at CMS
this year while Crnkovich drove a steady race into a
second. Dotson makes a late pass for third with
Marrant and Meyer completing the top five.
The
MSCA sprints on hand totaled eleven cars with drivers
from Missouri and Kansas. Kenny Potter from
Harrisonville and Mitchel Moore of Edgerton, KS won
the heat races and led the field to the green flag
for the feature event. Potter stayed in the
lead for the entire race, but Moore pressured him
several times early on. Cody Baker of Lone Jack
moved up into the third spot after starting in the
third row. Joe Walker, the 2007 Modified
Champion pulled double duty and looked strong up in
the top five all night. Potter worked his way
round lapped traffic without any problems late in the
race and crossed the line first for the $1,000
feature win. Moore follows in second with
Baker, Walker and Dusty Murray rounding out the top
five. Murray moved up from the back of the
field for a solid run into fifth place.
Ten
ULMA late models were on hand for the night with
Jason Bodenhammer of Centerview and Kevin Coyne from
Kingsville winning the two heat races. Bodenhammer
led the field at the start of the race, but Coyne
pressured him all over the track and passed
Bodenhammer for the lead with a low side pass on lap
two. Bodenhammer regained the lead and held on
for the rest of the race taking the double checkers
for his first ULMA win this year. David Angell
from Holden had another solid race this week moving
up into a second place finish after battling with
Mike Ryun, Jon Binning and Steven Clancy. After
his victory last week Binning finishes strong in
third, Clancy moves up to fourth and with his first
visit to CMS in a late model, Ryun finishes fifth.
The
street stocks ran an almost caution free race and
provided some good side-by-side racing action.
Fifteen drivers registered in the pits with Brian
Johnson from Independence and Herb Danner of Holden
picking up the two heat-race victories. Johnson
and Danner started up front with Johnson and Marc
Carter from Warrensburg staging a good battle for the
top spot. Behind them Danner and Chad
Eickleberry went side-by-side for several laps for
second place. The defending track
champion Johnson kept his cool and stayed in front of
Carter to the checkers for his second feature win of
the year. Carter finished in second, with
Danner holding off Eickleberry for third and Nick
Bennet, rounding out the top five. A couple of new
drivers raced at CMS in the street stocks for the
first time; Chris Wunder and Sean Barnes.
Twenty-eight
B-modifieds filled up the pits as it took three heat
races and one b-main to complete the 20-car starting
lineup. Scotty Martin of Independence, Owen
Evinger of Oak Grove and for his first time in a
B-modified, Steven Barber of Oak Grove picked up the
heat race victories. Max Grogan of Basehor, KS
charged into the lead for the win in the
b-main. There were a few anxious moments for
Joshua Jacobs after he flipped over from a turn two
incident in the b-main race, but officials responded
immediately to find him unharmed. Then Martin
and Evinger brought the field to the green flag for
the feature with Martin leading lap one from the
start. For several laps early in the race Owen
Evinger, Steve Evans and Ethan Isaacs battled for the
second, third and fourth positions after Barber
slowed on the high side. Jeremy Lile also
battled in the top five with some good moves on the
track for the top positions. Martin raced his way
into victory lane at CMS for his second feature win
in a row. Isaacs had a great drive into second
with Lile third, Evans fourth and Brad Smith
finishing out the top five. Rusty Trimble moves
up from the final transfer position in the B-main all
the way up into sixth place finish.
